This opportunity is co-presented by two nonprofit organizations: Community Arts Center and LandArt Events. Up to 25 Artists will be chosen to participate.  Participating artists will create paintings at local farmers’ markets, orchards, urban gardens and farms. The initiative will culminate in an exhibition and event called Harvest Gathering: A Celebration of Local Art, Music, Food & Beer, which will take place on the afternoon of Saturday October 19th at the Community Arts Center.  The event will feature live music, artisanal pizza with locally sourced ingredients prepared in the CAC’s outdoor pizza oven, beer tastings offered by local breweries, and a reception for an exhibition.  All participating artists are required to submit work to the culminating exhibition. The exhibition will be on view in the Community Arts Center’s spacious Duke Gallery from Wednesday, October 16 through Saturday, October 19.  Juror of Selection and Awards: to be determined.

  • Applications open: March 1- March 28

  • Selection by April 3

  • Painting starts April 6

  • Inventory due no later than: Friday, October 11 (preferably in excel spreadsheet)

  • Delivery of Artwork: Monday, October 14

  • Exhibition on view to public: Wednesday, October 16 through Saturday, October 19

  • Harvest Gathering Event - Saturday, October 19, 2019 - Noon - 4 pm Artists are encouraged to attend

  • Pick up of unsold work- Saturday, October 19,2019- 4:00 pm


Best in Show artist receives a solo show in the Staircase Gallery of the Community Arts Center, dates to be arranged between artist and CAC office.


Community Arts Center will process all artwork sales.  A 30% commission will be retained (split between hosting organizations Community Arts Center and LandArt Events). Artists receive 70% of the revenue from painting sales.  CAC and LandArt Events reserve the right to allow purchasers to remove work from the exhibition upon sales.


  • All paintings must be framed in a professional manner.

  • All paintings that are wet must be labeled as such. (It is preferred that paintings are dry.)

  • Each artist must have at least two works that are painted entirely Plein Air, additional work can be started outside and finished in the studio.

  • Each artist will be able to display at least 4 paintings.

  • Each artist must exhibit work from at least three different painting locations. All paintings must be painted/begun at designated locations and between April and October 2019.


  • Artists must paint on designated dates at designated locations. Painting opportunities will be scheduled on both weekdays and weekends.

  • Locations will include an urban farm in West Philadelphia, Rittenhouse Farmers Market, Swarthmore Farmers Market, and several local orchards and farms that supply these markets.

  • There will be a minimum of 15 painting days in the time period for artists to choose from. This is roughly between 2 and 3 days a month.
